PROJECT COMPLETION

Ongoing

The Elaine E. Thompson Elementary School, or Loudoun County Public Schools ES-23, is a new elementary school project as part of the development of the Arcola Center. DMY was awarded this project under a geotechnical term contract with Loudoun County Public Schools and will provide the geotechnical engineering services for the project.

The new elementary school was designed in 2016 and will be located on the south side of Evergreen Mills Road between Trade W Road and Arcola Road. The proposed school will be built on 13 acres of undeveloped farmland and will be approximately 70,000 square feet.

DMY conducted a full site evaluation of the project site and worked closely with the civil and structural engineer to develop a boring and auger probe plan. Prior to conducting a field investigation, DMY engineers reviewed all available soils and geologic information for the site and worked with Miss Utility to clear any existing utilities. DMY’s field investigation involved the use of the company’s fleet of in-house drill rigs for Standard Penetration Test borings. DMY also recorded groundwater measurements and performed infiltration tests. All soil samples collected were tested and analyzed in DMY’s fully accredited lab located in Chantilly, Virginia.

DMY is now providing construction services, including inspection and testing of the following project elements: foundations, earthwork, concrete, reinforcement, masonry construction, structural steel, streel framing, roofing, waterproofing, exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS), fireproofing and fire protection systems, and pavements.

DMY’s team of certified inspectors and technicians, project manager, and principal engineer, carry out the inspection and testing meeting the County third-party inspection program and the applicable building codes. DMY’s team participates in preconstruction and progress meetings, performs daily inspections and testing, generates and tracks non-conformances, and ensures the work complies with the approved project documents and requirements. DMY’s utilizes in-housed material sampling tools and equipment for field sampling and testing. Laboratory testing of materials sampled during construction are tested and analyzed in DMY’s accredited lab located in Chantilly, Virginia.
