OUR INNOVATIVE APPROACH

At the beginning of each project, DMY performs an initial review of all existing environmental studies produced by other firms or government agencies, including standard federal and state environmental database record sources, including the following:

Federal database sources

  • Federal National Priorities List (NPL)
  • Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Information System (CERCLIS)
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act treatment, storage, and/or disposal (RCRA TSD) facilities and generators (RCRA Generators)
  • Emergency Response Notification System (ERNS) lists
  • Institutional and Engineering Control properties (IC/EC Registries)

State database sources

  • State Priorities List (SPL)
  • State CERCLIS
  • Voluntary Cleanup Sites (VCP) Brownfield Sites
  • Landfill and/or solid waste disposal
  • Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST)
  • Registered UST lists
  • State IC/EC Registries

If deemed necessary, we conduct a site assessment and HAZMAT survey to determine the existence of asbestos-containing material (ACM). All accessible and visibly apparent suspect ACMs (SACMs) will be sampled or assumed to be ACMs. The friability of any SACMs and/or assumed ACMs will be assessed and the locations and estimated quantities of these materials will be documented. Bulk samples of SACM will be collected using hand tools and dedicated sampling equipment and placed into individual, uniquely numbered, and sealable sample containers. Sampling equipment will be decontaminated between each sample location. The collected bulk material samples will be submitted to a Virginia-licensed National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) laboratory for analysis via polarized light microscopy (PLM) with a routine one-week turnaround time. We will also screen for additional hazardous material.

Upon completion of all reviews and assessments, we issue a final report with descriptions of all potential hazards, photographs, test results, and conclusions/recommendations.
